Acomplia or Rimonabant as Sanofi chose to brand it, was conceived as a one of a kind anti obesity drug that was meant to cure our society of a new found illness - being overweight. Sanofi R & D scientists were understandably proud of Acomplia; it was the first selective CB1 receptor blocker to be approved, to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise for patients with a BMI greater than 30 kg/m².

Acomplia was to accomplish what no modern day medicine had dared to. Rid the world of obesity. In fact, it was not a weight loss pill, as its inventors pointed out. It was a holistic medicine, which went into the reason why we gained weight, and addressed it with scientific precison. Acomplia suppressed appetite and worked systematically.

It wasn't a wonder drug, or wonder pill, it was a medicine which conceptually found favour with not only overweight patients but also their physicians, especially for patients with diabetes.
